Phillippians: got stuck on the first word: BONDSERVANTS of Jesus Christ
When you dive deep—again and again—sitting under different teachers, in different rooms, in different silences, the text opens. Big arcs come into view, but so do the small hinges: a single syllable, a single breath.
And then, I’m stopped—right after the names Paul and Timothy—by that first word that follows like a bell in a quiet room:
Bondservants.
Me—am I a bondservant for Jesus Christ?
Of Jesus Christ.
Am I?
The questions rise with the old companions: conviction, obedience, action, repentance, servitude.
And right then—mid-thought—a friend (Seventh-day Adventist or Latter-day Saint; I can’t recall) invites me to come this afternoon. Her husband is dying. Hospice has been called.
I’ve asked my warrior circle to pray: for a miracle that testifies, or for a peace that carries, and for a conviction that the narrow way to be found.
Am I a bondservant? I think so.
I am convicted to be only His.
I obey when I know I have heard Him.
I act without delay.
I repent quickly when I stumble.
And I am learning servitude—not as theory, but as a basin and a towel.....
Today, as I write, the door opens: a present, living moment to serve.
God is so good.
Bless my brother Greg and his wife, Melissa.
If they lack the clear sight of You, Lord, bring them Home—into the light of Your knowing. Put Your words in my mouth. Let this visit—under the hush of hospice—be a small feast of pleasantries, of quiet joy, of surety in You, and of humble service.
A bondservant of the Lord is one who freely binds their life to God in love and gratitude—choosing wholehearted devotion to His will, not as hired labor but as willing belonging; not compulsion, but covenant; not mere duty, but joyful, total surrender.

12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
